Money disappears from a mobile phone account in Thailand -3.21 baht
I noticed that money was being debited from my mobile phone account. The phone is now used for everything but making cellular calls and sending SMS. I don’t use these services either, but my mobile Internet was an unlimited prepaid package for a year in advance. In general, money should not be debited from the account. But at the same time, the money disappeared – several baht every day.
I tried to check the use of funds in the mobile application: calls, SMS, Internet – no hint that money was being debited. But the balance is decreasing!
In the end, my wife told me an unexpected place in the application where I was at least able to see the charges: Refill History → Service fee.
That is, in the specialized section of the Usage History application there is no data about debits from the account, but in the Deposit History they were found. Well, OK…
Here I saw multiple entries for different months: “Purchase of digital products and services.” The cost is 3.21 baht (3 baht is the cost of the service, the rest is VAT).
It is not yet clear why exactly they are being debited.
I tried to check my phone balance using USSD commands. I received information that money is being debited for “SMS contents and news updates”.
I looked through the entire mobile application in an attempt to understand why they were charging me money. But everything was to no avail.
In the application I saw a section “Digital products & services” with an active subscription “SMSHoroClub4”. But it also says that it’s free, right?
No, that's wrong! It turned out that I was being charged precisely for these SMS messages with my horoscope. Messages came 1-2 every day. What did they write in the horoscope? I don’t know – the messages were in Thai! I translated a couple of them, they say something like “Today you will have success in business.”
In general, while I was twirling the phone in my hands, I received another meaningless message in Thai, I checked my balance and finally realized that the problem was in these SMS and in SMSHoroClub4, which is not free at all.
How to cancel SMSHoroClub4. How to cancel all paid subscriptions
The problem is localized, all that remains is to cancel the subscription. Everything seems simple.
But in a mobile application, it is impossible to cancel a subscription – simply not in any section of the application.
I scrolled to the first message from SMSHoroClub4 and saw a single message in English with two phone numbers:
- 025147242
- *137
I called and everywhere the robot answered in Thai without the ability to switch to English.
Eventually my wife came to my rescue again, and this is what I learned:
- 025147242 – at this number, a voice recorded as if on the move in some corridor talks about additional horoscopes that can be subscribed.
- *137 – you can actually turn off subscriptions using this number
I knew about number *137 and it is mentioned in one of my instructions. But the problem is that all the information is given in Thai and the instructions are something like “wait for the end of the robot’s message and press “2”, then wait for the end of the next message and press “3”.”Apparently, the numbers have since changed and that's why the old instructions didn't work.
Well, now to cancel all free SMS with spam you need to do the following:
- Call *137 → Wait for the message to complete and press the number “1”. Then wait for the next message to complete and press the number “1” again to confirm.
To cancel all paid SMS subscriptions you need to do the following:
- Call *137 → Wait for the message to complete and press the number “2”. Then wait for the next message to complete and press the number “1” again to confirm.
So, already at this stage I received a message that the paid subscription of SMSHoroClub4 was cancelled, which is not bad.
How to return money debited for SMSHoroClub4. How to get money back for paid SMS subscriptions in Thailand
But very useful information was given in Thai – about how to return the money that had already been written off.
To return the money written off for SMSHoroClub4 you need to:
- Call *7772. Wait for the end of the recorded message and press the number “2” for a refund. Everything is ready – wait 7 days.
I almost immediately received a message that my request for a refund was being processed.
And a little later that evening, all the money written off for SMSHoroClub4 was returned to me.
By the way, through the number *7772 you can cancel your paid subscription – to do this you need to press the number “1”.
This is such an unexpected Happy Ending.
