On the islands, you can find clean beaches with clear turquoise water and white sand – just like on advertising posters. Many come here to take pictures or swim.
On the islands, the vegetation and terrain may differ from what you are used to in your place of residence.
In addition to relaxing on the beach, on the islands you can stay at a hotel or go to a bar. Everything is like everywhere else in Thailand, but in a limited space.
On some islands you will find buildings related to the royal family and the history of Thailand.
Island life has its indescribable charm.
On the islands you can stay in a hotel overlooking the sea. The sea is everywhere, literally around you. In general, it is more difficult to find a place from which you can not see the sea.
On the island, you can enjoy countless seascapes, white sand beaches and turquoise waters, sunsets and sunrises.
The following islands are located near Pattaya and its suburbs:
- Ko Lan
- Ko Phai
- Ko Sichang
- Ko Khram Yai
- Ko Samaesan
- Ko Samet
- Ko Chang
- Ko Kham
Some of them can be accessed from the Bali Hai Pier. But a cheap ferry goes to Ko Lan Island only. To get to some other islands, you need to pay for a Speed Boat or get to a nearby town first.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of islands. There are a few more in the Pattaya area. But some islands are just a rock in the sea, without beaches, sand or any infrastructure.
Ko Lan is the best island for several reasons. The island has 6 large beaches with white sand and clear water. You can get to the island by ferry for only 30 baht! This is the closest island to Pattaya, the entire tourist infrastructure is very developed on it: hotels, transport, restaurants, there are even bars with live music.
If you are in Pattaya and you want to visit the sea, which looks exactly like on advertising posters, then you need Ko Lan.
The flip side of the proximity to Pattaya and the cheapness of the ferry is that the island and beaches are crowded with tourists. If this does not bother you, then start your acquaintance with the islands from Ko Lan. This place will not disappoint you!
The island of Ko Sichang is not so close to Pattaya and you can get there either by Speed Boat or by ferry, but from the city of Si Racha.
The highlight of the island of Ko Sichang is its history, intertwined with the history of the royal family. Here you will find the buildings of Thai kings.
The island has one not very large beach with sand, sunbeds, and umbrellas. That is, beach lovers will be able to sunbathe and swim here.
The island also has several attractions (such as the footprint of the Buddha) and countless stunning views of the sea and the island.
Ko Samet is a very strong competitor to Ko Lan.
Ko Samet has many great beaches with white sand and turquoise waters, as well as even more stunning sea views.
There are many hotels and bungalows on the island of Ko Samet, as well as bars, restaurants and nightlife that accompany tourist gatherings.
The disadvantages of the island of Ko Samet include the fact that, unlike the island of Ko Lan, which is located directly opposite Pattaya, it takes about 80 kilometers to get to the pier on the island of Ko Samet from Pattaya.
But the problem with the distance is quite easily solved with the help of regular buses, taxis or even a trip on a motorbike.
On the other hand, the proximity to Pattaya of the island of Ko Lan means it is overcrowded even on weekdays.
On the island of Ko Samet, there are a little less people simply because of its some distance from the popular resort city. For some, this may be an advantage.
Ko Phai, like Ko Lan, is opposite Pattaya, but about 2 times further.
There is no ferry to Ko Phai, and you can get on the Speed Boat in 30 minutes.
Ko Phai is less populated than Ko Lan. In particular, there are no restaurants, hotels, roads, motorbike rentals and electricity.
But the island has several beaches that are nice for sunbathing and swimming.
You will need to bring food and water with you.
It is impossible to stay overnight on the island.
The entrance fee is 50 baht for Thais, 150 baht for foreigners.
Ko Phai is under the care of the Royal Thai Navy.
Ko Samesan is located in Sattahip. The city of Sattahip hosts naval bases. For this reason, as a foreigner, I was faced with the situation that part of the seafront turned out to be closed to me – although the Thais walked there without any problems.
It is forbidden for foreigners to stay on the island of Ko Samesan without Thais.
Alcohol is prohibited on the island. Bikinis are prohibited on the island.
At a time, 100 tourists can come to the island, no more than 500 people can visit the island in one day.
Thais pay 300 baht per ticket, foreigners 600 baht.
Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
