How to generate a QR code to receive bank transfers in Thailand

November 29, 2022

The article “How to pay with QR codes in Thailand” tells about a popular payment method among Thais: direct bank transfers from account to account, which are carried out without commission. Account details are contained in a QR code that every seller and every store has (whether it's a small stall on the street or a huge shopping center). To pay using a QR code, you need to scan it in the mobile banking application.

QR codes are paid using PromptPay. You can read more about this payment method in the article “What is PromptPay and how to use it in Thailand”. In short, you do not need to register with PromptPay to pay using a QR code, it is enough that the seller is registered there.

But what if you want to get a QR code for yourself? You can do it right in the banking application!

First you need to register with PromptPay – this is quite simple to do.

Note: if you have a bank account opened with Kasikorn Bank, then this bank uses its own technology when paying by QR codes: money goes to a unique electronic wallet, and then credited to a bank account. In practical terms, this means that Kasikorn users do not need to register with PromptPay. Moreover, all QR codes created in the Kasikorn app never use PromptPay.

How to create your own QR code to receive bank transfers

Next, the creation of a QR code in the online banking mobile applications of three banks will be shown. If your bank is not available, then you can do it by analogy: for example, open a QR code scanning window and look for a button there to create your own QR code to receive payments.

How to create a QR code to receive payments in Krungsri

Open the Krungsri Bank mobile banking app.

Tap “Scan”.

Tap “Receive”.

On the next window, you will see your QR code for receiving payments in Krungsri.

Amazingly, the app lacks a button to save the generated QR code! However, you can save it by taking a screenshot of the entire screen. If you have an Android phone, then to take a screenshot, press and release the volume down button and the power button at the same time.

Note: You do not need to register with PromptPay to generate a QR code to receive payments in Kasikorn.

Open the Kasikorn Bank mobile app.

Tap “Scan/MyQR”.

Tap “QR to Receive”.

On the next window, you will see your QR code for receiving payments in Kasikorn.

You can click “Save” or “Share” respectively to save or share your QR code.

How to create a QR code to receive payments in Bangkok Bank

Open the BualuangM (Bangkok Bank mobile banking) mobile app.

Select “My QR”.

Then tap “Receive with QR”.

Your QR code for accepting money transfers and payments at Bangkok Bank will be ready.

If you want to change something, click the “Edit QR” button.

You can enter the payment amount and/or add a note to the payment. When everything is ready, click the “Generate QR” button.

BualuangM has another way to generate a QR code. To do this, select “Scan”.

Then click on the icon shown in the upper right corner.

Then click “Receive money with QR”.

Your QR code for accepting money transfers and payments will be ready.

If you want to change something, click the “Edit QR” button.

Things to remember when using a QR code

When you use a QR code, anyone who can scan it with their online banking app has access to the following information about you:

  • phone number registered with PromptPay
  • name and surname of the owner of the bank account to which the money will be credited
