How to update entries in Passbook (Bank book)

January 20, 2023

Passbook (sometimes also called Bank book) is a document in the form of a small book that is given when opening a bank account in Thailand.

Passbook contains a list of all bank account transactions (incoming and outgoing money), or the total amounts of money incoming and outgoing operations for the past period.

Passbook is an important document that must be submitted to the bank when replacing a bank card and performing other operations (for example, updating passport data).

How to update Passbook (Bank book) at an ATM using Bangkok bank as an example

In the bank branch or next to the bank we find an ATM with the inscription “Passbook Update”.

The ATM screen says “Please open the latest page of your passbook”.

What do you think this inscription means? If you think that you really need to open the very last page of the passbook, then you are wrong. In fact, you need to open a page that has the latest record of a bank account transaction.

Insert the Passbook top into the appropriate hole in the ATM.

The ATM will completely “swallow” Passbook and will work with it for some time. The screen will display “Please wait” at this time.

If the new entries do not fit on one page, then you will see the following message:

There are remaining transactions. Please open a new page and insert passbook again.

That is, the page is already filled with records.

Take the Passbook, flip to the next blank page, and reinsert the Passbook into the ATM.

When everything is ready, you will see the inscription

Please remove passbook. Thank you.

ATM indicators for Passbook update

The ATM has the following indicators:

  • Remove and insert
  • Turn page and reinsert
  • Please contact branch attendant
  • In progress / Please wait
  • Not in service
