Ko Lipe is a very beautiful, but very small island in the Andaman Sea. This island is part of Thailand and belongs to the Satun province.

In terms of transport features, Ko Lipe is too small to have an airport. Moreover, even in the mainland of Satun province there is no airport.

Ko Lipe is located more than 60 km from the mainland. This means that a slow (but cheap) ferry would take too long, so there is no slow ferry. A speedboat runs to the island, but the price, as you can guess, is not low.

There are several options to get to Ko Lipe. Depending on where you are traveling from, they may be more or less convenient for you.

What transport can you use to get to Ko Lipe? From which pier can you get to Ko Lipe?

Ko Lipe Island is located in the Andaman Sea in the southern part of Thailand (Satun Province).

Ko Lipe can only be reached by boat.

The nearest mainland pier with water transport to Ko Lipe is located in Satun province, called Pak Bara Pier.

Although Pak Bara Pier → Ko Lipe is the shortest water route, this pier is not the only place from which you can get to Ko Lipe – all other possible routes are discussed below.

How to get to Ko Lipe Island from Bangkok

If you are interested in the fastest and most comfortable way to get from Bangkok to Ko Lipe, then you can use an airplane. As already mentioned, there is no airport either on the island or in the nearest province. But there is an airport in the neighboring province of Trang.

There are several carriers in this province that collect passengers around the city (including the airport, railway station and taxis around the city) and take them to the pier to go to Ko Lipe Island.

Carriers depart from Trang at 8-9 am. That is, if your plane arrives later, then this method is not very suitable for you.

If your plane arrives after 9 am, then you can:

• take a taxi to get to the pier in Satun
• spend the night at a hotel in Trang and at 9 am leave with minivans to the pier in Satun

The cost of carrier services from Trang to Ko Lipe is 800-900 baht per person – this price already includes the cost of a speedboat ticket.

The cost of an air ticket from Bangkok to Trang is about 3-4 thousand baht per person.

In addition, if you arrive in the evening and stay overnight in Trang (by the way, this is a very pleasant city), then add the cost of a shuttle bus to the hotel (90 baht) and some no-frills hotel (500 baht). And I didn’t say it would be easy.

If you need the cheapest options, the algorithm is as follows:

• bus (about 1000 baht per person) or train (about 300 baht per person) from Bangkok to Trang
• then you can use the services of the already mentioned carriers: a minivan collects passengers around the city at 9 am and takes them to the pier in Satun – the cost together with a speedboat is 800-900 baht per person.

How to get to Ko Lipe Island from Phuket

To get from Phuket to Ko Lipe there are at least two options.

There is no direct flight, so the options include water route and land route.

1. Speedboat from Phuket to Ko Lipe – takes about 5 hours, costs 2,500 baht.

2. Overland minivan ride to Trang or Satun and then one way or the other to Pakbara Pier.

There is a direct minivan flight from Pakbara to Phuket (costs 750 baht, does not include ferry), so there should be a return direct flight to the pier where the speedboats go to Ko Lipe – but I couldn't find it online.

How to get to Ko Lipe Island from Krabi

There are several carriers with different departure points and different additional services in the form of transfers around Krabi. But in general, their route is the same: to Satun by minivan, and then departing from Pak Bara Pier to Ko Lipe. The entire journey takes 7.5 hours, the price varies from 1000 to 1500 baht.

Ao Nam Mao Beach is the same pier from which you can get to Railay from Krabi by long-tail boat.

You need to take a long-tail boat to Ao Nam Mao Beach on your own. You will then be taken along the route Ao Nam Mao → Krabi → Pak Bara Pier → Ko Lipe. But you don’t have to delve into this anymore; all transfers fall on the shoulders of the transport company.

Travel time is 7.5-8.5 hours. The cost of the trip varies from 1000 to 1500 baht (depending on the carrier and additional transfers).
